The Uncle Bear Mission
Although Uncle Bear Publishing was founded in 2022, I have been in reference publishing since 1989. Over the years, I have edited literally hundreds of books on all subjects ranging from sports and history to art and the paranormal. I am also an author and have written over a dozen nonfiction (and one fiction) books. I have had many positive experiences over the years and worked with many talented authors. But I have also seen many wonderful book ideas and manuscripts tossed into the circular file because the publisher didn't think there was a market for them.
Publishers are here to make money, of course. Admittedly, we are, too. However, we're not here to play it "safe." We're looking for books on unusual topics and subjects that are not commonly addressed for audiences seeking more than common reference material and true-life stories.
We are, therefore, here to provide a haven for those with unique voices and unconventional perspectives, whether it is a philosophy on life, such as Jim Willis's Cosmo and Me or books for alienated subcultures such as the furry fandom.
We're also seeking fresh perspectives on old topics. For example, we currently have a book in progress about folklore regarding a very unusual creature (it's a secret, still). In addition, if there is a book about a topic for which it is difficult--if not impossible--to find a published book, we're interested!
Uncle Bear Publishing is a new company, certainly, but we are not new to publishing. We are seeking authors and books that are unique, unusual. We see our authors not as clients or resources but as partners in our mission to bring unexpected and unconventional nonfiction to the reading public.
