7th Annual Good Furry Awards!
Nominations Are OPEN through July 31!
What Is the Good Furry Award?
The Good Furry Award is an annual award that debuted in 2019. Furries nominate and select a fellow furry (or furries, you may nominate as many as you wish) whom they wished to recognize for outstanding spirit in the furry community. The awards were hosted on the "Ask Papabear" advice column website until 2024, but they are now being proudly hosted here at Uncle Bear!
Winners will be announced at this year's Another Furry Con in Ontario, California, this September!
Winners will receive a handsome trophy and a cash prize of $200 each!
There are three category winners each year, plus the Lifetime Achievement Award:
Plus! There is The Lifetime Achievement Award, a special prize selected by committee. Learn more here.
Nominees will be recognized
In the interest of spreading love and cheer to furries, we recognize that everyfur who is nominated should also get a little something. Therefore, we will be sending all nominees handsome, frameable certificates to show them they are noticed and loved for all they do.
How will the nomination and selection process work?
So, how this will work is that as the nominations come in, we will place them in one of the above categories based on what the nominee has done. Voters will then be allowed to vote for one person in each category. The top vote-getter will win the prize in that category. There will no longer be a single Good Furry Award but, just like the Oscars, there will be one winner in each category, each to receive a handsome trophy from our sponsor, Uncle Bear Publishing.
Who is eligible for nomination?
Any furry or group of furries who is currently active in the furry community is eligible. There are also no age restrictions or restrictions of any kind, including nationality, race, religion, sex, gender, etc. ANYone in the furry community can be nominated, and although the award is based in the United States, furries outside the U.S.A. are also eligible.
(Note: Please do not nominate people who are deceased or are no longer active in the fandom.)
What do you mean by "group of furries"?
A group is defined as any cohesive organization of two or more furries. For example, this can be a musical group, a fursuit performance/mascot group, the ops staff at a furry convention, a team of people who organize regular furmeets, a podcast station, or even the staff of a furry publishing company or other business. The award would go to the entire team, company, or organization.
Are you sure there are no restrictions?
There is one restriction. Papabear Grubbs Grizzly (mundane name: Kevin Hile), who runs this award, is not eligible for the award and cannot nominate anyone. Also, anyone who actively works on administering this award is ineligible. People who have won first place in previous years are also not eligible to win a second time.
What if someone tries to stuff the inbox with duplicate votes?
We do not tolerate ballot box stuffing. Not only will people who stuff the box get all their duplicates erased, but also their original vote will be deleted. This means that NONE of their votes will be counted in the selection process. And, yes, we can tell when you submit dupes and from where they came.
Who won the Good Furry Award in the past?
Why are you doing this?
It seems to me that every time something negative happens in the fandom, people focus on that too much to the point of giving the entire fandom a bad reputation. Rather than paying attention to the few furries who cause trouble, I would like us all to focus on furries who do good things and are good people. Let's give those furries some attention instead! The vast majority of furries are good people, and I want us all to start talking about them and thinking about them. My hope is to uplift this community. It's not so much about the final award (although that is important); it is about taking serious time to bring good furries to light.
If my nominee doesn't win the award, can he or she be considered for the next year's award?
Yes.
Can I nominate myself?
Um, no. (And message to trolls: I know you're out there, and that is why I check all nominations to make sure they are legitimate. Leave your trolling urges at the door.)

There are three category winners each year, plus the Lifetime Achievement Award:
- The Good Egg Award: This prize is for furries who do charitable and other volunteer work, such as helping out at furcons, raising money for animal charities, or doing work in their non-furry communities.
- The Image Award: This prize goes to furries who present a positive image of the fandom through the media, including YouTube videos, documentaries, vlogs, podsts, websites and other similar means of communication.
- The Furtastic Award: This prize is basically for furries doing good works that don't easily fall into the first two categories. A good example of this is Chise, who has done amazing research for the mRNA vaccines. It could also apply to a furry who you believe is just an all-around wonderful, lovely person, even if they might not do charity work or do something in the media. An example might be, for instance, a furry who offered their home to a homeless furry until they could get back on their feet again.
